1907 - iSeries Development Manager -

The iSeries Development Manager is an experienced, process-oriented leader with proven experience leading a team of Developers. S/he must have the ability to assess, design, integrate and implement internal transactional applications/platforms. Utilize the guiding principles of delivering business needs (value), keeping it simple, and delivering a high quality product. Must have experience maintaining a quality focused SDLC, working closely with the internal/external development and project management teams.

Must have good understanding and experience operating within project management methodologies. Ideal candidate would have at least 3 years in a management capacity.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• This position will have a major focus on effective portfolio management (prioritization), project management and software delivery.
• Position will have a team of developers reporting directly to him/her.
• Manage all activities and functions of a staff involved with the analysis, definition, specification, development, testing, documentation and installation of new and/or existing applications.
• Manage the development and deployment of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications and systems.
• Review and analyze existing application effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
• Effectively balance time and resources between software maintenance, support, and new application development.
• Interface with internal customers and management to insure that issues are addressed in a timely and professional manner.
• Lead application design, establish priorities and resource utilization, implement changes to improve the team's effectiveness, and monitor progress.
• Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of software development technologies and trends in the industry.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
• Proven experience in overseeing the development and implementation of software solutions, including production environment support.
• Project management focused individual with experience managing projects, leading teams, and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, etc.
• 3 years serving in a management capacity responsible for coaching, performance appraisals, resource time management and prioritization.
• Strong experience managing the internal & external development of RPG applications and systems on the AS/400 highly desired.
• Detailed knowledge of IT system and software best practices and methodologies, maintenance, SDLCs.
• Thorough understanding of systems analysis and design techniques.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
• Ability to work closely with business unit leaders and foster strong partnerships between IT and other business units, with a strong customer-service orientation.
• Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to research issues and determine solutions and programming effects on existing systems.
• Debugging skills: debug complex technical issues involving communication across multiple systems
• Highly self-motivated and directed with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Financial Services industry experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent work experience
