1867 - Test Manager - Southwest Minneapolis Suburb

The company is developing a lot of software because of business growth.

The Information Technology Retail Systems Test Manager will lead a testing team in the planning and execution of software testing, as well as developing and implementing a strategic roadmap for the testing process for the Retail Systems suite of applications.

This position will be responsible for managing the testing team, which includes vendors and internal resources, both on and offshore. This includes maintaining and improving the testing roles, managing the internal testing resources, and working with an external vendor on resourcing and skill development and managing the overall expenditure on testing within IT.

The position plays an important role in the continued growth and success of the software testing process. This role will be responsible for developing the strategic plan and roadmap to define and improve the testing processes for the Retail Systems capability area. The Test Manager will partner closely with the Leadership teams, Project Managers, Release Manager, and Business Analysts to ensure that testing is coordinated and performed to a level defined for each area, and that there is proper communication and management of the scheduled testing.

Key Responsibilities:
• Establishing a testing strategy that takes into account the project methodology, scope of work, planned resources, testing deliverables, functional integrity and performance expectations, and the use of tools where appropriate.
• Evaluate the testing artifacts produced to date; design, implement and train the test team (and other project team members as needed) on an appropriate set of testing deliverable templates.
• Define and document the testing process to be followed.
• Manage the overall relationship with the external test team, including contracts and budget
• Plan and direct the activities of the testing team, including resource load
• Develop and maintain a testing project schedule that most effectively utilizes testing resources
• Determine an appropriate set of quality and testing metrics to be used by the test team and implement the means to collect those metrics. Report metrics to management at their desired intervals.
• Provide a testing status report to leadership at their desired interval; communicate any project-level issues and/or road-blocks that could prevent the team from delivering on schedule, as soon as those issues or road-blocks are discovered.
• Monitor the testing effort and test deliverables to be sure the prescribed process and templates are being used, are effective, and are adding value.


Required Experience
• Minimum of ten years in the testing profession with at least five years experience successfully managing test teams.
• Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, business or related field
• Experience with defining and executing a QA Testing roadmap for a suite of integrated systems
• Experience with testing a variety of applications, including transactional, internet and packaged software
• Experience with testing tools and automated testing practices
• Experience in managing testing in different software development methodologies – Agile, Iterative, Waterfall
• Experience in managing complicated, integrated system testing
• Experience with establishing and collecting metrics.
• Strong technical aptitude as well as practical knowledge of quality best practices and their application.
• A history of meeting or exceeding aggressive deadlines in uncertain environments, and delivering high quality results.
• Strong bias for action and passion for taking initiative, accepting personal responsibility to deliver on commitments, having courage to raise issues, and proactively working to resolve issues and remove barriers in a timely manner.
• Very effective written and oral communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences including software development teams, end-users and/or product subject matter experts, as well as the leadership team
• Strong organization, analysis, and problem solving skills.
