EDI/AS400 Developer
Working Relationships
- Role within EDI team will be cooperative and collaborative.
- Work with EDI Trading Partners – as assigned to research, analyze and implement EDI Message Guideline requirements, including interface, transfer and transmission details, in accordance with Amscan EDI standards and protocols. Resolve processing inconsistencies.
- Work with ERP Business Unit Managers and Users Foreign and Domestic -- areas include: new requirements, prioritization, research and problem resolution, application and process testing, documentation, training.
Environment
- Primary Technology: IBM i, utilizing RPG and embedded SQL.
- IBM i Applications: Trusted Link iSeries (EDI); Liaison EDI-INT and GoAnywhere (Communications);
Description
The EDI developers fulfill the traditional RPG analyst-programmer role – and possess the necessary additional EDI specific skills required to support Global EDI Infrastructure.
Typically work to interface with ERP System Modules for Purchasing, Financial, Standard Order Processing, Warehouse/Distribution, and Logistics, with a good understanding of the related business processes.
Good communications skills to coordinate and work closely within the EDI team, especially assigning Project Manager and EDI Coordinator. And at times with multiple project managers.
Work includes: a) modifications to improve our existing interfaces and flow between ERP business systems b) new design/development to expand the global support role of EDI utilizing up-to-date coding techniques, and technologies.
Use advanced IBM i skills (especially Free Format ILE and embedded SQL), including RPG coding support for multi-language application display screens and reports.
Experience and Skills
- Programming experience: Minimum of 3-5 years, with some EDI development, in an IBM i environment, specifically program logic, programming, data conversion/transfer and migration; and all phases of debugging/testing and documentation. This includes fundamental EDI support concepts as Trading Partner Guideline Analysis and compliance, Translator Trading Partner setup, Mapping.
- Working experience with the common EDI transactions: 850, 855, 860, 810, 856, 864, 852, ORDERS, INVOIC, DESADV, INVFL, ORDFL, etc. (preferred)
- Experience with EDI standard/method: ASC X.12, EDIFACT, Tradacoms, XML. (preferred).
- Ability to work in a multiple IBM i machine environment, supporting multiple time zones globally (China, Europe, Asia Pacific, USA).
- Experience with training system users, and working with system consultants, outside programmers, and vendors. (preferred)
- Good verbal and written communication skills. (required)
- Good organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects. (required)
