Publisher of books, children's books, books for schools and libraries. This includes Digital publishing 4 years.
Manager
The manager is NOT a micro manager. Likes a person to take ownership and if they have a question, ask the question.
Training
The manager is a big believer in lifelong learning. She likes to sit down with each of her employees and develop a training plan. They have subscriptions to Pluralsight.com and Linda.com.
Team
There are 10 people in the IT Dept. There are 1 Business Analyst, 4 Developers, 2 System Administrators, 1 Associate System Administrator, 1 Storage Administrator, and 1 Help Desk person.
Position
The position reports to the Director of IT.
What you will do
There will be a lot of variety. Will work with users, do problem solving, work users to get requirements and to show how technology can benefit, design, develop code, automate web dashboards, work with other web sites, develop applications.
Some of 2015 projects:
- Automate business processes and web dash boards
- Creating applications where business users query for files the meet "X" criteria. The company has a lot of content and files in their data/file store.

Someone who likes variety, takes ownership, loves problem solving, likes helping people see how technology can benefit them, work collaboratively with other team members and business stake holders. People who believe in books and education find working for this company to be rewarding.
Culture
Culture is very helpful. There is a lot of collaborative work between departments and sometimes with the customers. The owners and executive understand there are things that happen outside work that needs attention and do their best to accommodate.
Work hours
They like for people to be here between 10- 3:30 if possible but they have people that start at 6:00 am and as late as 10 based on their personal needs. We have a flexible environment. The Director's general management philosophy is that people have a life if the employees are treated with respect they will respond by being responsible.
Technology
Necessary Technical Skills:
- They have the Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft meaning when a new technology comes out they can upgrade right away so this company is always current.
- Development using Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server
- Strong understanding of C#, application architecture and object-oriented design
- ASP.Net website development
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Knowledge of relational database design and development.
- Experience creating tables, views, functions, and stored procedures in Microsoft SQL Server
- Strong knowledge of T-SQL.
- Love to learn new technologies.
