1976 - AS 400 Developer -

Business:

Distribution and Warehousing and 3PL/Fulfillment of video games and accessories. They sell to every major retailer. Walmart is their number one customer.   Others include Target, Best Buy, Kohl's etc. Their 3PL (3rd Party Logics) they do includes fulfilling .com orders. For example if you order a video game from Target.com, they fulfill the order from their warehouse and send to the person who ordered the video game.

Reason for the postiion:

• More projects than the current staff can handle.   They have two FTE AS400 Developers on site and they have two offsite consultants. Need more help on site. They have to be there to see what is going to understand.
• The 3PL business is growing fast. So, there will more and more assignments doing work for the 3PL business.

Job

• At first the person will be given a lot of detail because they do not know the company. But as time goes on they will provide the person with the business need or problem and have them run with the project.  
• Their idustry specific ERP package has been heavily modified. The assignments are to make modifications or add programs to deal with the business problems or needs.
• As mentioned there will be a lot of programming for 3PL warehouse and distribution applications.

The IT Shop

• The two FTE Programmers. These guys have 15 to 20 years of RPG/400. No one thinking they are the king of programming, truly a share idea environment.

The Candidate:

• Really want someone who is seasoned and has AS400 RPG/ILE experience
• As the person gets to know the company and the work they would like the person to be able to bring new ideas. Also be able to see what needs to get done.
• Want someone who is independent AND a team player.

Personality

• They rib each in good fun.  
• Someone who wants to be independent, do not be afraid to come forth with your questions.

Company itself

• Culture: Dress is jeans with a decent shirt. Relaxed that way. Privately owned and owner makes things fun and do fun things. Picnics 3 times a summer in the parking lot or warehouse with motorized toilet races, barbeque, spinning wheel win nice gifts. Each gift usually costs about $300.00.
