The BI Software Development Manager provides both tactical and practical leadership to a Software Development Group to ensure effective growth, supports the development teams to meet business needs by coordinating and managing the daily activities of group members in assigned work area and resolving day to day issues, work-flow, and business issues related to team. The Software Development Manager is also responsible for applying industry experience of process and tools to improve Group operations and to build and maintain a supportive, cooperative and cohesive work environment.
Responsibilities Leading and supervising the work of architects, developers, business analysts, and project managers, the BI Software Development Manager provides quick and effective management in tasks requiring planning, coordinating, scheduling, documenting to ensure products and services meet requirements and expectations of the stakeholders; and to establish and maintain metrics for quality and productivity.
Leading Functional Work:- Provide leadership regarding software development tools, techniques, and emerging approaches in the Business Intelligence work space
- Understands resource requirements and formulates resource strategies to meet stakeholder needs
- Work collaboratively with product specialists, program managers, clients, and management to ensure that functional requirements are thoroughly and accurately defined as required
Leadership:- Provide clear leadership for the assigned Development Group
- Line team building and management
Continuous Improvement:- Work with colleagues to optimize effectiveness of the development team and devise improvement strategies and initiatives
- Act as a catalyst for the evolution of software development life cycle Facilitate creation and implementation of new processes
- Introduce new techniques and bolster process initiatives
- Facilitate continuous improvement efforts to improve delivery of software products in optimal time
- Establish and maintain metrics for quality and productivity
Knowledge Management:- Maintain a working knowledge of analysis and programming techniques; including data warehouse architecture, connectivity, programming languages, standards, methods and tools
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business or other application field or equivalent experience
- Related graduate degree preferred
- 6+ years experience in technology (software development, testing, systems, technical support, etc)
- 5+ years experience in software development with an emphasis on Business Intelligence
- 3+ years experience as a manager in a cross-functional role
- Strong experience in managing data warehouse projects and understands the separate delivery components of ODS, DW, and Marts
- Experience managing teams with both front-end (Business Objects) and back-end (ETL) software development resources
- Experience in data quality initiatives and total quality management
